CONDUCTOR

After launching the WCB, Mike Lipe moved to south Texas. Ross Grant has continued as conductor. In 2018 Dr. Grant retired from a career in music education that spanned 38 years of teaching, from the panhandle to the metroplex, and from class 3A to class 6A.   While at each school, his bands grew in numbers and in quality, often doubling in size. Dr. Grant served for two years as Coordinator of Instrumental Music Education on the faculty of Texas Christian University. His High School Band in DeSoto was a “top five” finalist at the UIL State Marching contest eight times, and was twice invited to the Tournament of Roses Parade. He has served as a clinician and adjudicator in TX, OK, AR, IL and AZ.  Dr. Grant is an honorary “Lifetime Member of the Texas PTA”, and he was honored seven times as “most influential teacher of a top-ten high school senior”. He previously led the TCU Community Band, and founded the Northwest Community Band, before moving to Wylie.
